The PAPASAVA Site

Location

map

Pleubian is a small village with a few shops, 2 supermarkets and a weekly market on a Saturday morning.   The area is called the Pink Granite Coast and Pleubian is situated on the Presqu'ile Sauvage (literally The Wild Peninsula).

The closest town with shops, train station etc is Paimpol to the south east (about 15km away). Treguier is a very ancient town with a few shops to the south west (about 15km away).  A larger town to the west is Lannion (30km away).   The closest city is St Brieuc to the south (about 50km away).

The Presqu'ile Sauvage has many small communities: L'Amor-Pleubian (3km), Kerbors (3km), Pleumeur-Gautier (5km) and Lezardrieux (10km).

Information about the area is available from the following sites. The area can be very busy even though tourism is very seasonal: August is a prime month : and accommodation, rented cars etc can be fully booked (we know through experience).

How to get there by train, plane, ferry, car or boat

Train

http://www.voyages-sncf.com/

The TGV from Paris (Montparnasse Station*) goes to either Brest or Lannion.  The website will also allow you to hire a car from the station for when you arrive and leave by train.   Tickets are cheaper if booked well ahead.

Stations to use

  • Guingamp (all trains) about 25km from the house : this is our closest TGV station and journey times are just about 3 hours 15 minutes from Paris.
A local train links to the timing of most TGV trains to take passengers to Paimpol, which offers some fantastic scenary during the 45 minute journey. The website above will also tell you about the trains from Paimpol if you do a search Paris - Paimpol.
  • Lannion and is about 30km away and just over 4 hours from Paris.
  • St Brieuc (all trains) is about 50 km away and 3 hours from Paris.

*Note about Montparnasse
Eurostar and Thalys trains arrive in Paris at Gare du Nord. Metro Line 4 (Porte d'Orlean direction) from Gare du Nord goes directly to Montparnasse Metro Station in about 25 minutes. You need about 10 minutes to walk from the Metro station to the train station.

Plane

Text in brackets indicates how long it takes to reach the house

  • There is a small airport at Lannion (20 minutes) with direct flights to and from Paris and other places in France.
  • There is an airport at Dinard (90 minutes) which takes flights from the UK by Ryanair
  • There is an airport at Brest (90 minutes) which takes flights from many places in France and the UK. See this website for destinations and airlines www.airport.cci-brest.fr/en/
  • There is an airport at Rennes (2 hours 30 minutes) which also takes flights from the UK and France www.rennes.aeroport.fr/

You can hire a car at these airports, but it can be busy so it is best to book ahead.

Ferry
www.brittany-ferries.co.uk There is ferry from Portsmouth (UK) to St Malo or from Plymouth to Roscoff.  Both ports are about 90 minutes drive from the house.  Rented cars can be picked up at both ports. There is a train from St Malo, which will link you to the TGV line and the local train to Paimpol.

Car

The house is about 1.5km from the centre of Pleubian.  In the centre of the village, find the church, and keep the Marie (a Pink Building) on your right hand side at all times.  Drive past a shop called Catena on your left and at the mini roundabout follow the road to Port Beni.  Continue on this road for about 1km, you will come to a corner where the road goes to the left, keep going straight on, driving towards Port Beni.  When you come to the Electricity Tower on your left, turn right, go 50 meters and the entrance to the garden is facing you.  The house is behind a tall hedge so you can only see the roof.

We have discovered that different Sat Nav systems have different spellings for our address, we think this depends on whether it is the French spelling or the Bretagne language spelling. Recently a street sign has been installed which indicates another spelling !!

For those with sat nav this may help to find us:

48.84719° N 3.15729° W

but do not worry - we will put up some signs on the day from the mini roundabout indicated above.

Boat

There are anchor points at Port Beni in a tidal estuary (10 minutes walk to the house), leisure ports are also at Treguier, Lezardrieux and Paimpol, which has a proper harbour.

Maison des Plaisanciers, Paimpol : 02.96.20.47.65. Port information are also on the Tourist Information web sites above.
